Sawgrid

Terms of Use

Effective 30 July 2026. These terms govern your use of the Sawgrid iPhone app and the website at sawgrid.vercel.app.

Check every dimension before you cut

Sawgrid is a planning tool, not a guarantee. It arranges rectangles, accounts for the saw kerf and adds up areas. It cannot see your saw, your fence, your blade, your material or your workshop, and it has no way of knowing whether the numbers you typed are the numbers you meant.

Before any material is bought and before any cut is made, you are responsible for verifying every dimension against your own drawing, your own material and your own machine. In particular:

  • Confirm that the kerf setting matches the blade actually mounted on the machine.
  • Confirm the real size of every sheet, board and offcut. Nominal sizes and delivered sizes differ.
  • Confirm the edge trim allowance against the condition of the material you actually have.
  • Confirm that grain direction, face side, thickness and part orientation are what your design needs.
  • Re-read the quantities on the shopping list before you order anything.

Cutting plans produced by Sawgrid are proposals. Using them does not transfer responsibility for the result, for the material purchased or for workplace safety to the developer. Woodworking machinery is dangerous, and nothing in this app replaces the manufacturer's instructions, the applicable safety rules or your own judgement.

1.Scope and parties

These terms form a contract between you and:

Levin David Schwab
Paulinenstrasse 1/2
71263 Weil der Stadt
Germany
Email: levin.schwab@gmx.de

referred to below as "the developer". They apply to the Sawgrid app in every version, free or paid, and to this website. By installing or using Sawgrid you accept them.

Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies in addition. Where that agreement and these terms genuinely conflict, Apple's agreement prevails for the subject matter it covers.

Conflicting or supplementary terms of your own do not become part of the contract unless the developer has agreed to them in writing.

2.What Sawgrid does

Sawgrid takes a list of parts and a list of available stock and computes cutting plans, a cut list, a shopping list and an area balance. It works with rectangular parts and guillotine cuts, in two dimensions for panels and in one dimension for linear stock. All computation happens on your device.

Sawgrid does not nest arbitrary polygons, does not drive machinery, does not order material and does not check that a design is structurally sound. The features actually present in your version are those described in the App Store listing for that version.

3.Your licence

You receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use Sawgrid on Apple devices that you own or control, in accordance with Apple's usage rules, for as long as this contract lasts. You may use the app commercially, including in a professional workshop.

You may not decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer the app, except to the extent that mandatory law expressly permits it, in particular §§ 69d and 69e UrhG. You may not remove attribution notices, redistribute the app or offer it as a service to third parties.

Cutting plans, PDF documents and exported files you create with Sawgrid belong to you. The developer claims no rights over your project content.

4.The free version

Sawgrid can be used without paying anything. This version shows no advertising of any kind and contains no advertising, analytics or tracking software, so nothing is asked of you in return for the free use. What the free version does and where paid access begins is described in the App Store listing and in the app itself. Details on data are in the privacy policy.

The free version is provided without any entitlement to a specific feature set, to uninterrupted availability or to a specific volume of use.

5.Purchases and subscriptions

Sawgrid offers paid access, which unlocks the paid feature set. You can obtain it either as an auto-renewing subscription or as a lifetime purchase.

Where prices are shown

The current price, the length of each subscription period, the exact scope of what is unlocked and any introductory or trial offer are shown in the App Store listing and again on the purchase screen inside the app, in your local currency including any applicable tax, before you confirm anything. No price is quoted on this page, so that this document can never contradict the price you are actually offered.

Subscriptions

Lifetime purchase

Both

Apple is the seller of record for all in-app purchases. Payment, invoicing, tax and payment data are handled by Apple, not by the developer. Purchases are tied to an Apple Account and cannot be transferred between accounts.

6.Right of withdrawal and refunds

Because Apple is the seller of record, the statutory right of withdrawal for consumers is exercised against Apple and follows Apple's rules and process. Refund requests go to Apple, through reportaproblem.apple.com or your purchase history. The developer cannot issue refunds and has no ability to reverse a charge.

If a purchase went wrong and Apple's process does not solve it, write to support anyway. There is often something that can be done from this end, such as diagnosing why a restore failed.

7.Your responsibilities

8.Updates and availability

The developer may publish updates that fix defects, add features, remove features that are no longer maintainable, or adapt the app to new operating system versions. Where an update materially reduces functionality you have paid for, you will be told before it is applied, and you may end a subscription in accordance with section 5.

Sawgrid is an offline app, so its core function does not depend on any service being up. There is nevertheless no guarantee of uninterrupted availability, of compatibility with every future iOS version, or of continued distribution through the App Store.

9.Intellectual property

The app, its source code, its user interface, the name Sawgrid, the logo, the documents produced by the app as templates, and the content of this website are protected by copyright and remain with the developer. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership. The licence in section 3 is the full extent of what you receive.

The optimizer is an independent implementation. It is deliberately not derived from any copyleft licensed cutting or nesting software.

10.Defects

Statutory liability for defects applies. For paid versions, the app must have the agreed quality and be suitable for the use assumed under the contract, including the statutory requirements for digital products under §§ 327 ff. BGB where those apply to you as a consumer.

A deviation is not a defect where it is caused by input data you supplied, by device settings, by modifications you made to the operating system, or by use contrary to these terms. Please report defects to support with enough detail to reproduce them, which for a cutting plan problem means the project and the settings that produced it.

11.Limitation of liability

The developer is liable without limitation:

In cases of slight negligence, the developer is liable only for breach of a material contractual obligation, meaning an obligation whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on whose fulfilment you may regularly rely. In that case liability is limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this type of contract.

Any further liability is excluded. This applies in particular to material costs, wasted stock, machine time, lost profit, delay to a project or consequential loss arising from a cutting plan that was used without the verification required by section 7.

The limitations above also apply in favour of the developer's employees, agents and vicarious performance agents. Mandatory statutory rights that cannot be excluded remain unaffected.

12.Relationship with Apple

This contract is between you and the developer, not with Apple. Apple has no responsibility for the app or its content, and no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim you have concerning the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to a legal requirement, and claims under consumer protection or similar legislation.

Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third party beneficiaries of these terms and, upon your acceptance of them, have the right to enforce them against you as a third party beneficiary.

13.Term and termination

The contract runs for as long as you have Sawgrid installed. You end it by deleting the app, and for a subscription by additionally switching off auto-renewal in your Apple Account settings. Deleting the app on its own does not stop a subscription from renewing.

The developer may terminate this contract for cause, in particular in the event of serious or repeated breach of section 3 or section 7. The statutory right of both parties to terminate for cause remains unaffected.

14.Governing law and disputes

German law applies, to the exclusion of the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer with your habitual residence in another country, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of that country.

Place of jurisdiction is determined by statute. Where you are a merchant, a legal entity under public law or a special fund under public law, the exclusive place of jurisdiction is the seat of the developer.

The developer is neither obliged nor willing to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board within the meaning of § 36 VSBG.

15.Changes to these terms

These terms may be amended where a change of law, of case law, of Apple's rules or of the app itself makes it necessary. You will be informed of material changes in good time, in the app or by the note at the top of this page, and for continuing obligations such as a subscription you have the right to object and to terminate before a change takes effect. Should any provision be or become invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions is unaffected.
